First, here are a few pictures from our triathlon. It's true what they say--nobody looks good doing a triathlon.

Finishing the race!

Joe is already talking about doing the race again next year. One of the rugby wives (and maybe her husband) want to do the triathlon with us, and Patti and Reggie said they would like to go to Key West with us! That would be so much fun! If we go next year we would like to take a day or two longer. The schedule we had was pretty rough. We got there Thursday at 5 pm. Friday, we had to assemble our bikes, go to the hotel to get our race packets (on the other side of the island), ride back to the transition area to drop off our bikes, and then walk back to our hotel (we got back just before dinner time). The race took all day Saturday. Sunday, we disassembled and packed the bikes, had breakfast, and headed to the airport for a 2 pm flight home. We landed in Baltimore at 8 pm.
Lessons learned from this trip:
1. We are never taking our bikes on an airplane again. What a pain in the butt. We will definitely ship them to a bike shop (or use the shipping services provided by the race). It's pricey, but totally worth it.
2. We would like to spend a couple of extra days at our destination to relax.
3. We will get some other kind of primary transportation, instead of relying on our bikes. We had to check our bikes into the transition area by 7 pm on Friday, so we had to walk everywhere that night, and we had to walk to the race start the next morning.
4. We would like for somebody else to come with us to spectate. It would be so much easier. The race people allowed spectators to collect our stuff (including bikes) from the transition area to take back to the hotel. This would be much more efficient. Plus, then we would have pictures!
5. We will eat right after the race. A good hearty meal with lots of carbs and protein. We didn't do this, and we suffered.
