The past few days have been a roller coaster of emotions and events. We're still trying to figure this parenting thing out. All we have to do is figure out how to feed and change diapers, but I had no idea how difficult that would be!
In the hospital, Nikki was our problem child. We had trouble with Nikki eating, so we switched to formula. She is eating like a champ, sleeping well, and seems very happy in general. Ben, who was the angel child in the hospital, has turned into the difficult one. We switched him to formula also, and he did well for a day or so. Now, he spits up every time he eats (sometimes multiple spit-ups), and then requires more food. We are trying figure out the best way to feed him.
We went to the doctor yesterday for the circumcision check, and the doctor did a brief once-over of both of them and answered our questions. He said that the spitting up is not much of a concern as long as he continues to gain weight appropriately. Based on his recommendations, we have started to feed him while he's sitting more upright, putting him to bed in the boppy to keep his head up, and feeding him on demand. If this doesn't work, then we'll talk about adding rice cereal to his formula. The starch in it is soothing to babies' tummies, and it's supposed to make it thicker, and therefore stay down a little longer.
Otherwise, things are going pretty well. We have our feeding schedule sort of worked out (4am, 8am, 12pm, 4pm, 8pm=Deb; 12am=Joe). Joe was doing the daytime feedings as well until today, his first day back at work.
I'm also recovering fairly nicely. My belly doesn't really hurt at all. Every now and then it will burn a bit, but it's nothing a couple of tylenol won't fix. We took the babies for a walk yesterday, and I walked for half a mile! It seems like such a far cry from the 3-5 miles I would run at this time last year. My GI system is back on track also--between the surgery and nerves/stress, it took a while to get my appetite back. Just in time, too! Today is my birthday, and Joe is taking me out to dinner tonight (with Jim and Julie, too). The grandparents have volunteered to watch all three children at once! Yikes!
Sorry no updated pictures yet. We've been a little busy. I'll try to get some this weekend.
